Olympique de Marseille have confirmed that Nayef Aguerd (29) will undergo surgery on his pubalgia issue.
Aguerd has been suffering with a pubalgia issue for much of the season, and as reported by Foot Mercato, it is the player himself who wanted to undergo surgery in order to fix the issue. It was his desire to play in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) that prevented him from undergoing surgery sooner. Prior to the tournament, Marseille had to manage the defender’s minutes.
However, the issue has become too recurrent, too considerable, forcing the Morocco international to treat the issue. OM have confirmed that Aguerd will undergo surgery on Thursday, 12th March. The objective, the club adds, is for the defender to return for the final matches of the Ligue 1 season.
The former West Ham United centre-back will want to get minutes under his belt ahead of this summer’s FIFA World Cup.
