Paris Saint-Germain and Marseille face off in Le Classique on Sunday evening at the Orange Vélodrome, with the reigning champions PSG looking to extend their perfect start to the 2025/26 Ligue 1 campaign against their fierce rivals.
Roberto De Zerbi’s side has undergone significant changes this season, with seven new signings integrated into the squad. The Italian manager faces selection decisions with Hamed Traoré sidelined with a thigh injury that forced him to miss the midweek Champions League clash at Real Madrid.
Summer signing Nayef Aguerd is also doubtful after sustaining a head injury on his debut against Lorient, leaving his involvement in serious doubt, although De Zerbi, when asked about Aguerd’s current situation, said, “We will see and follow all the necessary medical protocol, we will then see on Sunday”.
The hosts can call upon recent additions including Benjamin Pavard, Matt O’Riley, Emerson, and Arthur Vermeeren. CJ Egan-Riley has returned to availability after missing last weekend through suspension, though a starting berth remains uncertain.
Luis Enrique’s champions arrive with a growing injury crisis affecting key players. João Neves has been ruled out after sustaining a hamstring injury during the 4-0 Champions League victory over Atalanta, with the Portuguese midfielder expected to remain in treatment until next week.
The injury list includes Ballon d’Or frontrunner Ousmane Dembélé (thigh), forward Désiré Doué (calf), and defender Lucas Beraldo (ankle), all of whom are unavailable for selection. Despite these setbacks, PSG’s depth has allowed them to maintain their flawless league record.
The good news is that Khvicha Kvaratskhelia is fine and was included in the Champions League starting lineup against Atalanta, where he scored a superb effort.
De Zerbi’s men have alternated between victories and defeats in their opening fixtures, currently sitting seventh in the table with six points. Their most recent outing saw them suffer a narrow 2-1 defeat to Real Madrid at the Santiago Bernabéu, despite taking the lead through Timothy Weah. However, they emphatically beat Lorient 4-0 in their previous league fixture.
The Parisians remain the only team to have won all four opening matches, accumulating 12 points and sitting six points clear of their weekend opponents. Their perfect domestic form continued with a 2-0 victory over Lens, while they opened their Champions League title defence with an impressive 4-0 triumph against Atalanta.
