Marseille want to sign Arsenal attacker Ethan Nwaneri on loan for the rest of the season, according to The Athletic journalist David Ornstein.

Marseille manager Roberto De Zerbi has held positive talks with his Arsenal counterpart Mikel Arteta and Nwaneri.

A decision is expected from the England youth international in the coming days, but a move to Ligue 1 could be on the cards.

Nwaneri would need a guarantee of regular game time to join Marseille until the end of the season.

The 18-year-old played 37 games across all competitions for the Gunners last term, but has played just 12 times this term.

Nwaneri has not started a league game this season, coming off the bench six times. His chances are limited due to the impact of summer arrivals Eberechi Eze and Noni Madueke.

Marseille are third in Ligue 1 after 22 games, eight points off league leaders Lens. They finished second in the league last term and are desperate to go one better this season.

De Zerbi wants to bolster his attack for the second half of the campaign and is convinced Nwaneri could be a solid addition to his squad.

A move to France could get the best out of the Arsenal youngster, and he could return to London next summer ready to mount a stronger challenge for a place in the first team.
