Mason Greenwood remains Roma’s top target to strengthen their attack, but the deal remains closely tied to Marseille’s delicate financial situation.

The French club must raise approximately €100 million by June 30 to settle its accounts, even after the fine imposed by UEFA and the ongoing investigations by the DNCG, the French football financial watchdog.

This situation makes the search for liquidity through the transfer market inevitable.

Greenwood is the most valuable player in Marseille’s squad, and his sale could provide some breathing room for OM’s coffers. However, the asking price remains unchanged: €50 million plus €5 million in bonuses, a figure Roma is currently unable to meet without first completing some sales.

Despite their financial difficulties, Marseille appears unwilling to cut corners.

As reported by L’Equipe, a club source reiterated the club’s position: “Many think we’ll sell Greenwood off because we’re forced to sell. But they’re wrong. There are too many symbolic and financial aspects at stake in this deal.” This position, at least for now, leaves no room for a discount.
