QPR head coach Marti Cifuentes has spoken out about his future at Loftus Road amid speculation over a move to West Brom.

Queens Park Rangers head coach Marti Cifuentes has confirmed he will hold talks with the club's hierarchy at the end of the season amid speculation linking him with a move to West Bromwich Albion.

Cifuentes replaced Gareth Ainsworth at Loftus Road in October 2023 at a time when QPR were sitting in the bottom three and looked destined for relegation, but he inspired a remarkable turnaround to keep the club in the Championship last season.

The Spaniard was rewarded for his impressive work with a new contract in September, and while the R's have not made as much progress as they would have hoped for this season, they are on course to achieve a solid mid-table finish.

However, rumours about Cifuentes' future emerged last week when The Sun revealed that he was considering handing in his resignation after growing frustrated with the direction the club is heading in under CEO Christian Nourry.

Talk about a potential exit for Cifuentes gathered pace on Sunday when Sky Sports claimed that his representatives have held discussions with West Brom, who are currently searching for a new manager after parting company with Tony Mowbray last week, although no formal approach has yet been made by the Midlands outfit.

While Cifuentes denied claims that he is set to leave Loftus Road, he revealed that he will hold talks with the QPR hierarchy after the conclusion of the season, and he stressed the importance of everyone at the club being aligned.

When asked if he was looking to resign, Cifuentes told West London Sport: "Not so far, I don't know, why should I?"

"I guess it's a regular things you will discuss with a football club at the end of the season. So for me it's very natural to sit with the owners and CEO to do a balance (review) of the season, as I will do with my players and staff.

"This is the moment you need to review the things that have gone well and might be improved and to align with what's next."

Despite suffering a 5-0 defeat to Burnley in their final home game of the season on Saturday, the R's fan base again made their backing of Cifuentes clear, and the 42-year-old expressed his gratitude for the support he has received at the club.

"I said before that as long as I’m wanted, I’m very happy," Cifuentes told West London Sport.

“In any case I am very calm about the job I have done and the fact that we have achieved what were difficult targets.

“I’m an ambitious person in the sense that I always push myself. I always want to improve.

"I have a contract and I want to keep improving. I enjoy my job here, enjoy English football, and am ready for more."

Marti Cifuentes would be an exciting appointment for West Brom

It seems only initial talks have taken place between Cifuentes' representatives and West Brom at this stage, and the Express & Star claim that the Baggies are in no rush to make an appointment, so there could be plenty more twists to come in their managerial search.

However, Albion are thought to be keen to bring in a younger head coach after the failed appointment of a more experienced figure in Mowbray, so Cifuentes could fit the bill perfectly, and he has certainly shown enough at QPR to suggest that he would be an excellent choice.

Cifuentes may be giving little away on his future at Loftus Road, but it looks as though his relationship with Nourry has broken down, and a move to a club with greater financial resources and promotion ambitions in West Brom would surely appeal to him.
