Martín Demichelis has left RCD Mallorca after only a few months in charge. The club said in a statement that the Argentine’s brief spell has ended amid a difficult period for the team.

His departure follows RB Leipzig paying his release clause. Demichelis had recently renewed his deal with Mallorca, but has accepted the offer from the German club.

Demichelis arrived in February to steady the side after Jagoba Arrasate’s exit. His time at Son Moix has been short and the switch has surprised the club and many supporters.

Mallorca must now find a new head coach at a crucial stage of planning for next season. The sporting department are already working through alternatives to lead the project.

Demichelis will now take on the challenge of managing RB Leipzig in the Bundesliga.
