Martín Zubimendi meets former Real Sociedad team-mates after Copa triumph | OneFootball

Martín Zubimendi reunited with former Real Sociedad team-mates Mikel Oyarzabal, Ander Barrenetxea and Beñat Turrientes on Wednesday after Atlético Madrid’s Champions League tie with Arsenal at the Metropolitano.

According to Diario Vasco, Zubimendi had not been able to see them in person since Spain duty in March. A packed calendar meant he missed the Copa del Rey final in Sevilla and the celebrations in Donostia. He had checked his schedule as soon as qualification was sealed in the hope of attending, but it proved impossible.

Once the final whistle went against the Gunners, Oyarzabal, Barrenetxea and Turrientes headed down to the pitch to catch up with Zubimendi. The reunion was captured on video inside the stadium.

Atlético were the opponents both in that Copa final and in this Champions League semi-final, so the Real players could share insights from Seville before the return leg in London.

The first leg finished 1-1, leaving the tie and a place in the final to be decided at the Emirates.
