New details and punishments on Marvin Ducksch's drink-driving charges have emerged following the Birmingham City striker's recent court appearance

Marvin Ducksch's future at Birmingham City has been cast into doubt following the striker's arrest for driving and crashing while under the influence of alcohol in the wake of Blues' 2-1 home defeat against Ipswich Town on Easter Monday, for which he has been punished both internally and externally - and new details regarding the charges have now come to light in a freshly-emerging update.

Ducksch made his way to St Andrew's @ Knighthead Park last summer as one of a series of high-profile additions made by the ambitious Championship side after achieving promotion out of League One at the very first time of asking.

The striker, who recorded eight goals and eight assists for Werder Bremen in the 2024/25 Bundesliga campaign, endured a mixed debut season at Birmingham on and off-the-pitch, having initially waited until November to open his account under Chris Davies before finishing the term with ten league strikes from 33 appearances.

He did, however, lose his place to January arrival August Priske towards the latter stages of the season, and the 32-year-old's future has remained in firm doubt following the aforementioned charges at the start of last month.

Ducksch was subsequently omitted from Davies' squad for the next two matches, and has been touted for a potential move out of the Second City amid reported interest from the likes of Hertha Berlin, Real Sociedad and AEK Athens.

Now, with speculation regarding the two-cap German international's future poised to intensify as we head towards the summer months, key details surrounding his charges and forthcoming punishments have been revealed.

On Wednesday, additional information on the case emerged during a hearing at Warwickshire Magistrates' Court, for which Ducksch was in attendance.

It has transpired that the Birmingham forward clipped two vehicles on the A3400 on Stratford Road near his side's training ground while trying to change the music in his car, having been at almost double the legal limit when breathalysed by police officers following the incident.

This led to a three-vehicle crash, which resulted in one of the female drivers involved suffering a nosebleed and injuries to both her forehead and thumb. Thankfully, however, nobody was seriously harmed by Ducksch's actions, with the player himself having stopped at the scene to check on the victims before being arrested and taken into custody by attending officers.

But that hasn't prevented Ducksch from being punished, and the sanctions imposed on the ex-Borussia Dortmund man have now become clearer.

As per reports, Ducksch has received a 14-month ban from driving alongside a total financial sanction of £20,240, which includes a £16,155 fine, a £2,000 surcharge, £85 in court costs and £1,000 each in compensation for the two drivers involved, all in payable monthly instalments of £2,000.

What has been said about Marvin Ducksch's drink-driving charges in court

Ducksch is said to have been apologetic in his prepared statement to police, with the attacker admitting to consuming alcohol before getting behind the wheel and clipping "an oncoming car and another one following behind."

However, it's the view of chairman of the bench John Kiely, who imposed the fine, that Ducksch can consider himself fortunate to be alive and have not killed any of the other drivers involved. Kiely told Ducksch: "Thank you very much for your patience while we have been talking about this offence.

"We heard that there was an incident in which two vehicles were clipped.

“We have looked at the photographs (of the damaged cars).

"You can consider yourself lucky first of all that you weren’t killed and secondly that the other drivers weren’t killed. That’s how serious this matter is."

Ducksch's solicitor, Julia Morgan, provided a strong and detailed reference of the German's overall character and his conduct throughout the case.

Morgan explained: They (the police) didn’t arrive immediately but he waited and he checked on the welfare of the occupants of the other vehicles.

"He is currently a young man who plays as a professional footballer for Birmingham City Football Club.

"Not only is he going to be subject to the sentence that you impose today - from a financial point of view he has also been penalised by Birmingham City for his actions that night.

"He has been penalised financially and further by not being permitted to play in a number of matches following this incident. That illustrates how seriously incidents of this nature are taken.”

"They (the club) have provided references. I hope you have had the opportunity to see them and read them.

“In essence they talk about a man of impeccable character in his conduct towards his team, his managers and the club itself. I myself have found him to be a most polite young man.

"It’s very unfortunate he has found himself in this position, now having a conviction from the courts."
