It's the biggest hint yet that Liverpool's massive €100m transfer is going to happen.

Liverpool want a new winger this summer and that desire should fuel their biggest transfer. Perhaps one that rivals the kind of money paid for Florian Wirtz and Alexander Isak in 2025.

Certainly, it shouldn't be a shock if Liverpool were to pay a nine-figure Euro sum once again. That's the kind of money you need to spend if you're to come close to replacing Mo Salah's output in attack.

But who? There have been plenty of names linked with the Reds but we're now got the biggest clue so far as to who they plan on signing.

And that clue comes from who won't join Liverpool. The Athletic reports that the Reds will not pursue Anthony Gordon this summer despite his availability from Newcastle United.

Gordon is, in a lot of ways, the ideal target. He's a boyhood Red who offers fantastic pace on the flank, is proven in the Premier League, and ticks the homegrown box.

Liverpool disregarding him as an option points to a belief they will sign someone else. After all, you don't rule out a target as good as Gordon unless you're confident about signing a better option.

And that simply must be linked to Liverpool having held talks with Yan Diomande's representatives. Diomande will cost €100m this summer but the Reds know this - their discussions hint at a willingness to pay RB Leipzig's asking price.

As does them pulling out of the Gordon race.

Yan Diomande: Situation Summary

Bundesliga Performance and Stats

As of 28 April 2026, Yan Diomandé has solidified his status as one of Europe’s most exciting teenage prospects at RB Leipzig. The 19-year-old winger has recorded 12 goals and eight assists across all competitions this season, including a standout performance with a goal and an assist in the recent victory over Eintracht Frankfurt. Despite a minor shoulder injury in March that forced him to miss the international break, he returned to the starting line-up for the 1–0 win against Union Berlin on 24 April. Diomandé ranks in the 96th percentile for progressive carries and currently leads the 2026 Golden Boy race.

Transfer Saga and Liverpool Links

Diomandé’s future is currently at the centre of a high-stakes transfer battle. While reports on 22 April suggested Liverpool were nearing an £87 million agreement to sign him as Mohamed Salah’s successor, more recent updates from 28 April indicate that Diomandé has "shut the door" on an immediate exit. RB Leipzig are reportedly standing firm on a €100 million valuation and hope to tie him to a new contract with a release clause for 2027. Despite this, Liverpool remain confident in their pursuit due to strong relationships with the Red Bull group.
