Matarazzo praises Edin Terzic as he heads to Athletic | OneFootball

Pellegrino Matarazzo has praised Edin Terzic, saying the incoming Athletic coach will have a positive impact on LaLiga.

As reported by as.com, the Real Sociedad manager raised the subject in his pre-match briefing ahead of tomorrow’s game against Betis, joking he had not read the news after a defeat. He called Terzic a great coach and a good person, said they had spoken often in Germany and met recently for lunch while both were out of work.

The pair are due to meet in pre-season in the Euskal Herria Txapela, which brings together the two best Basque sides based on derby results. La Real had already secured their place by topping that table, Athletic sealed theirs by beating Alavés on the last matchday.

They have faced five times in Germany, with Terzic winning four, all while in charge of Dortmund. In the first meeting Matarazzo led Stuttgart, and in the next four he was at Hoffenheim. The most recent encounter went to the current Real Sociedad coach.

Matarazzo, born in the United States but shaped in the Bundesliga, took charge of Real Sociedad in January. La Real went on to win the Copa del Rey against Atlético at La Cartuja. The German-school influence in LaLiga is growing, with Hansi Flick thriving at Barça.
