The Premier League have appointed referee Anthony Taylor into the role of on-field match referee for Manchester City’s clash with Bournemouth on Sunday afternoon.
City returned to winning ways in South Wales on Wednesday night thanks to a comeback victory over Championship side Swansea City, who took the lead inside the opening 15 minutes thanks to a stellar strike from distance from Goncalo Franco.
Guardiola’s players were off the pace for the majority of the first-half, but found their way back into the game via some good fortune, as a Jeremy Doku effort on goal was deflected into the back of the net, tying the game at the interval.
The English top-flight giants found their groove throughout the second-half, dominating proceedings and leaving onlookers with a realisation that the goals would soon come for the visitors.
Omar Marmoush combined with Rayan Cherki to put Manchester City ahead, splitting the Swans defence before slamming home a much-needed goal from an acute angle, before the aforementioned Frenchman would add to the scoring in additional time.
Premier League commitments return almost immediately for Guardiola’s side as they look to transfer a fine performance into their bread and butter, whilst making amends for their lacklustre showing at Villa Park last weekend.
Ahead of the meeting between Manchester City and Bournemouth, the Premier League have now announced the list of match officials to oversee proceedings at the Etihad Stadium!
Appointed by the Premier League into the role of lead on-field match referee at the Etihad Stadium this weekend, it has been confirmed that Anthony Taylor will oversee Manchester City against Bournemouth.
The 47-year-old, Manchester-born official has taken charge of 11 fixtures across the Premier League and UEFA Champions League so far this season, issuing a total of 34 yellow cards, one second yellow dismissal, and four penalties awarded in the process.
Taylor has already overseen a contest involving Manchester City this campaign, taking on the clash between Pep Guardiola’s side and Ruben Amorim’s Manchester United, resulting in a 3-0 victory for the Sky Blues at the Etihad Stadium.
In fact, City have a pretty positive record in matches officiated by Anthony Taylor over the years, meeting the official in a total of 48 matches, winning 26 of those meetings, drawing 10, and losing 12 contests.
Across such matches, there have been a total of 64 yellow cards issued by Taylor, four straight red cards handed out, and a total of nine penalty kicks awarded.
Accompanying Anthony Taylor at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon will be an assistant referee pairing of Gary Beswick and Adam Nunn, the Premier League have confirmed this week.
Overseeing Manchester City’s clash with Bournemouth this weekend from the VAR Hub at Stockley Park will be Video Assistant Referee, Paul Tierney alongside Assistant Video Assistant Referee, Adrian Holmes – as confirmed by the Premier League.
Standing between the two dugouts at the Etihad Stadium this weekend and managing proceedings between Pep Guardiola and Andoni Iraola will be the appointed fourth official, Adam Herczeg.
