The Premier League have confirmed the team of match officials to take oversee proceedings between Manchester City and Newcastle United on Saturday evening.
Pep Guardiola and his players will come into their fourth clash of the season against Eddie Howe’s side knowing the outcome of Arsenal’s latest top-flight encounter, as Mikel Arteta’s men face Wolves at Molineux on Wednesday night.
As such, City will need to be laser-focussed on their own performance, particularly if the Gunners are to record a win in the Midlands and extend their lead at the top to seven points ahead of the Etihad Stadium event.
Manchester City will have taken plenty of confidence from recent matches, and recorded progression into the FA Cup fifth round on Saturday afternoon with a professional 2-0 victory over League Two side Salford.
That followed Premier League wins over Fulham and Liverpool to bring them within just four points of Arsenal at the top of the division after they were held to a draw away at Brentford last week.
Now, ahead of the meeting between Manchester City and Newcastle United, the Premier League have now announced the list of match officials to oversee proceedings at the Etihad Stadium!
The Premier League have confirmed that referee Thomas Bramall will be the lead on-field match official for the weekend’s meeting between Manchester City and Newcastle United at the Etihad Stadium.
The Sheffield official has overseen matches across four different competitions so far this season, with 21 outings spread across the Premier League, Championship, Carabao Cup, and FA Cup.
In those 21 matches, Bramall has issued a total of 78 yellow cards, two second yellow card dismissals, one straight red card, and awarded a total of seven penalty kicks in the process.
Bramall has only ever officiated Manchester City on two occassions in his professional career, both involving south coast clubs at the Etihad Stadium. The most-recent of those meetings saw Pep Guardiola’s side held to a 1-1 draw at home to Brighton in early January.
As for the only other previous meeting between Thomas Bramall and Manchester City, it was a 3-1 home win over Bournemouth in the penultimate matchweek of the 2024/25 season – the final home game for Kevin De Bruyne at the club.
Accompanying Thomas Bramall out on the Etihad Stadium pitch this weekend will be an assistant referee pairing of Ian Hussin and Constantine Hatzidakis, the Premier League have confirmed.
Overseeing Manchester City against Newcastle United from the VAR Hub at Stockley Park this weekend will be Video Assistant Referee James Bell, sitting alongside support from Assistant Video Assistant Referee Dan Robathan.
Standing between the two dugouts and managing events from the sidelines involving Manchester City’s Pep Guardiola and Newcastle United’s Eddie Howe will be referee Tim Robinson in the role of fourth official.
