Brentford Under-21s are back in action at Wheatsheaf Park on Monday afternoon against Cardiff City Under-21s (2pm kick-off GMT).

The Professional Development League clash is one of three league games left for the young Bees, Sam Saunders’ side fighting for the title come the end of the season.

The west Londoners come into the game in good form with seven-consecutive wins under their belt across all competitions, six of those coming in the league.

Brentford currently sit second in the table, one-point adrift from leaders Sheffield United, but with one game still to make up on the young Blades.

Meanwhile, Cardiff are fighting to remain in the playoff positions with four games to play. They sit eighth at the time of writing, however only sit above Charlton Athletic in ninth on goal difference.

Saunders’ side cruised to a dominant 6-1 win over Fleetwood Town U21s at Gtech Community Stadium last time out.

Ethan Laidlaw impressed with his first hat-trick of the season, while Reiss Nelson, Ollie Shield and Kyrie Pierre also scored and Keane Lewis-Potter featured.

Previously against Cardiff, the Bees fell to a 4-0 defeat away from home.

After Brentford goalkeeper Reggie Rose was shown his marching orders inside the opening five minutes, Saunders side continued to battle, however ultimately couldn’t stop the hosts’ momentum with 10 men.

About Cardiff City

Cardiff enter Monday’s game eighth in the league table with 10 wins, six draws and eight losses.

It’s been a mixed bag of results for the young Bluebirds recently, with two wins, four draws and four losses in the their last 10 league games.

They come into Monday’s game fresh from a long stint off, their last game a 2-1 win over Fleetwood on 17 March.
