Given the summer transfer window they have already had, many are predicting Wolves to return to the Premier League at the first attempt.

The Old Gold finished the season bottom of the pile, with their fate known for some time, but they have already acquired some admirable talent in Kieran Trippier and Raul Jimenez, both on free transfers.

As expected, Joao Gomes has now departed Molineux, but the club did a brilliant job in tying combative midfielder Andre down to a new deal.

Mateus Mane is another who is primed to play a key role for Cesar Peixoto's team next term, and he has shared his new boss' strong statement to his squad.

It was a pretty chaotic start to the summer for Wolves, with Rob Edwards unexpectedly relieved of his duties and the unknown quantity of Peixoto taking the reins.

The World Cup may have temporarily drawn attention away from Molineux but with the majority of players back for pre-season, the Black Country club are now preparing for a long Championship campaign.

The division is stacked full of stellar names this time round, with West Ham and Burnley set to be among Wolves' challengers as well as a host of teams that came close to promotion last campaign as well as those expected to improve.

Mane caught the eye last term and is primed for a big future, and he has been speaking about his new boss on the Wolves Unpacked podcast ahead of August's kick-off.

“On the first day he came in, he had up when we walk in, saying: ‘We will be champions this season’," the teenager said. “And I feel like that's the mentality he's trying to get across to everyone.

"So every day when you come in, just get that into your mind that we'll be champions and that's what we're fighting for and that's what we want to give our fans and family as well.”

Peixoto has certainly made a strong statement to his players ahead of the new campaign, but in truth nothing less is expected of this Wolves team.

They have stolen a march on their rivals already this summer by landing experienced professionals like Jimenez and Trippier, while West Ham are yet to really get the ball rolling on signings and Burnley only recently appointed a new head coach.

While his squad may look completely different come mid-August, Peixoto possesses several quality players who can make their mark on the second tier, including Andre, Adam Armstrong and Hugo Bueno.

On paper, the Black County have a squad with quality all over the pitch, and it also feels like they have a good balance throughout, something the Hammers will take time to strike.

The lack of squad disruption is something that should work in the Old Gold's favour and, as long as the players buy into Peixoto's vision, they may well win the Championship title.
