Matheus Bidu says Corinthians will use the near two-month World Cup pause to rest and absorb more of Fernando Diniz’s work, with a challenging second half of the season ahead.
He spoke after Saturday’s 3-1 win at Grêmio in Porto Alegre in the Campeonato Brasileiro, a result that eased relegation concerns.
According to ge.globo, Corinthians will halt activities at CT Dr. Joaquim Grava until 25 June, with no official matches between 1 June and 20 July. During the hiatus, they will play at least one friendly, against FC Cascavel on 12 July at Estádio Olímpico Regional in Paraná.
Bidu stressed the break is vital for recovery in a packed calendar and believes it will help Diniz bed in his ideas. He said the squad will focus on rest and training, hoping to return stronger.
In the second semester, Corinthians continue in the league and have last-16 ties in the Copa do Brasil against Internacional and in the Copa Libertadores against Rosario Central of Argentina. Bidu expects tough opponents, insisting they must focus on their own level to seek qualification and, if possible, titles.
Corinthians are 10th on 24 points, four clear of Vasco da Gama, the first side in the Z4. On resumption, their first fixture is Remo at the Neo Química Arena in the 19th round, pencilled in for 22 July.
