Matheus França will end his loan at Vasco at the end of the month and will return to Crystal Palace. He will not remain at São Januário after the World Cup break.
According to Globo.com, the attacking midfielder arrived on loan midway through last year with Fernando Diniz’s approval, who valued his versatility. At rivals Flamengo he operated as a central midfielder, winger and even centre forward, which appealed to the former coach. In 2025 he was also deployed as a second midfielder.
França struggled to make an impact at Vasco, featuring 27 times and scoring only one goal, against Audax Italiano of Chile in the Copa Sudamericana. He made 23 appearances as a substitute and started four matches.
His departure will free space in the budget as Vasco look to add players for the rest of the year. He is among the squad’s highest earners, with the club paying 100 percent of his wages, and the cost was increased by the exchange rate with the pound sterling.
França was not selected for the last two Brasileirão fixtures by Renato Gaúcho. He has played only three league games, all coming off the bench.
