Mathieu Bodmer takes SM Caen role, tasked with swift return to Ligue 2 | OneFootball

Former Paris-SG midfielder Mathieu Bodmer has been appointed director of football at SM Caen, Kylian Mbappé’s club, with a brief to develop the project and deliver a quick return to Ligue 2.

According to L'Équipe, after four years as sporting director at Le Havre, his expertise and drive helped the Norman side climb back to Ligue 1 and stay there, though he departed on unhappy terms.

Caen first brought Bodmer from Évreux in 1998, when he was 15, setting him on a professional career that lasted 20 years.

Nearly 30 years on, he returns to his formative club at the request of the Mbappé family, tasked with steadying the set-up and pushing the team back towards Ligue 2 as soon as possible.

Having left Le Havre behind, he now hopes to make that success happen in Caen.
