Ange Postecoglou is adamant new signing Mathys Tel will be a Tottenham player next season, despite only agreeing a loan deal until the end of the current campaign.

The 19-year-old joined Tottenham on deadline day, despite reportedly rejecting a move to north London earlier in the window.

Postecoglou quickly dismissed that suggestion and has such confidence in his new signing that he has declared that the Frenchman will be part of his plans at Tottenham beyond this season.

Spurs have the option to make the deal permanent should Tel be a success in the Premier League.

And when asked about Tel’s future beyond this season, Postecoglou responded: “He’ll be a Tottenham player.

“I think he’ll show everyone that he’s going to be a Tottenham player in the next six months. I didn’t bring him here for six months.”

Postecoglou held long conversations with the on-loan Bayern Munich forward to try and convince him to make the move to the Premier League.

The Tottenham boss played down his powers of persuasion, however, and made reference to plenty of examples where things haven’t worked out with particular players.

“I think there’s something to be said for honesty and integrity,” Postecoglou added.

“As much as action speaking louder than words, I think I’ve got a pretty compelling story to tell because when I speak to players, I’m not trying to sell anything there isn’t plenty of evidence for.

“I think most players that’s where they get comfort from more than anything else because I don’t think it’s about smooth talking or selling.

“I think there’s a really good story here [at Tottenham] which I really believe in and I speak from a strong conviction that what I’m saying will come to fruition.

“I really believe that. I don’t think I need to do anything special. You’re hearing the success stories, there’s plenty of examples where it hasn’t worked out.”
