Matsuki sparks rout as Southampton climb to sixth | OneFootball

Southampton beat Wrexham 5-1 to climb from seventh to sixth in the Championship.

Early on the bar was rattled twice before Kuryu Matsuki swept in from the centre of the box in the 12th minute, set up by Finn Azaz. Flynn Downes doubled the lead with a low finish (22.). Josh Windass pulled one back after Kieffer Moore's lay-off (34.).

Arthur Okonkwo kept Wrexham in it before the break, parrying efforts as the visitors pressed. Daniel Peretz was largely untroubled at the other end, gathering the hosts' one clear strike on target.

After the restart Cyle Larin restored control with a tidy finish (61.). Changes then told for the Saints as Ross Stewart, on from the bench, glanced in a header from Welington's free kick delivery (81.) before Azaz tucked home a fifth from Shea Charles' header back (83.).

Saints registered nine shots on target from 16 attempts, underlining their edge in the final third. Wrexham produced 11 attempts but worked the goalkeeper only twice.
