Matt Doherty has left Wolves for the final time, ending 13 years across two spells in old gold. The 34-year-old departs as a free agent after 389 appearances, the 16th most in club history.

On nine December 2018, he settled a 2-1 win at Newcastle, arriving at the back post to nod in a 94th-minute winner after Diogo Jota’s run and shot were parried.

On seven April 2019 at Wembley, Wolves surrendered a 2-0 lead to Watford and missed the FA Cup final, but Doherty had earlier put them ahead with a far-post header from a cross following a short corner.

In Wolves’ first season back in the Premier League, he delivered eight goals and 10 assists from wing-back. The following campaign brought involvement in another 12 goals.

On 27 December 2019, he struck an 89th-minute winner against Manchester City at Molineux. Ederson was sent off early, Raheem Sterling scored twice for 2-0, Adama Traore pulled one back then set up Raul Jimenez, before Doherty exchanged passes with Jimenez and finished left-footed.

He departs with 33 goals and 41 assists and is remembered as a model professional, liked and respected throughout the club.
