West Brom coach Matt Gill has reflected on his nine-week, 11-game spell that helped secure Championship safety, while his future at the club remains unconfirmed.
Gill said in a LinkedIn post that the stint was unbelievably enjoyable and rewarding, that everybody worked hard to secure safety, and that he was pleased to play a small part.
Gill joined the staff after James Morrison’s first game as interim. Under Morrison, Albion put together a long unbeaten run that clinched survival. He was later appointed on a permanent basis after three interim spells in 12 months.
The former EFL midfielder and ex-Ipswich first-team coach has built a strong reputation, working with Russell Martin at MK Dons, Swansea, Southampton and Rangers. Several Albion players highlighted his impact late in the campaign.
After taking the role full time, Morrison said his staff had been fantastic, that decisions would be assessed after the season, and that he would love to keep Gill.
Fans have debated whether Gill might rejoin Martin, with the former Southampton boss linked with Watford. There is still no confirmation on whether Gill will remain at Albion next season.
