If there is one frustrating aspect of Manchester United’s injury list, it is the lack of transparency from the club’s side.

Lisandro Martinez, who was expected to miss only a solitary game, is set to remain absent for the fourth consecutive fixture this Sunday.

The same goes for Mason Mount, who has missed the last six games, even though initially it was described as a small knock during training.

However, the most curious case is that of Matthijs de Ligt. Former head coach Ruben Amorim had described it as a minor injury, claiming the Dutchman would be back for the next game.

Lack of transparency regarding injuries

Yet, the former Bayern Munich ace has ended up missing over three months of action, with no return in sight as he keeps suffering setbacks during training.

Carrick has also not spoken about his absence openly, leading to speculation that the Netherlands international could miss the rest of the season.

Reliable social media account Sully has claimed that the 26-year-old has been through hell during this sustained period of absence.

However, the centre-back has not given up on hope of appearing one more time this season, spending more and more time in the gym while also working on his rehabilitation programme at Carrington.

Matthijs de Ligt injury hell

“CentreDevils understands that Matthijs de Ligt has been doing gym and rehabilitation work in Carrington.

“One source says he’s been “through hell” over the past few months, and there is concern internally with him.

“The centre-back has been close to returning on several occasions, but he’s had several setbacks as well as aggravated the back injury.”

The injury record of both Matthijs de Ligt and Martinez does not inspire much confidence, and therefore, INEOS need to strengthen at the back in the summer.

Micky van de Ven, Cristian Romero, and Murillo are among the Premier League-proven targets being considered by the club.
