Maurício has denied intending to catch Vitória defender Cacá with an elbow during Wednesday’s match at Barradão. According to Globo.com, he has since been charged by the STJD and could be suspended.
The attacking midfielder scored one of the goals in a 4-0 win in Salvador.
Speaking after Palmeiras beat Fortaleza 3-0 on Sunday, he said the incident was unintentional and that his record shows he is not a malicious player. He added that he cannot dwell on it for fear of further sanctions and that the club are preparing a defence.
The complaint cites Article 254 of the CBJD for violent conduct, carrying a sanction of one to six matches. The hearing is scheduled for Tuesday morning and, as a first-instance decision, Palmeiras would be able to appeal any suspension.
Vitória argued he should have been sent off for catching Cacá in the face. Referee Alex Gomes Stefano instead showed a yellow card, with VAR not recommending a review. Later Cacá and Luan Cândido were dismissed, and both, plus president Fábio Mota, were also reported to the STJD.
