Arsenal teenager Max Dowman has written his name into Premier League history after becoming the youngest player ever to score in the competition.
The 16-year-old winger found the net during Arsenal’s 2–0 victory over Everton, scoring at the age of 16 years and 73 days to break a record that had stood for nearly two decades. The previous milestone belonged to James Vaughan, who scored for Everton against Crystal Palace in April 2005 at 16 years and 270 days.
Dowman came off the bench to seal the win for the Gunners in dramatic fashion. Collecting the ball inside his own half, the youngster surged forward, beating two Everton players before racing clear and finishing into an empty net. Everton goalkeeper Jordan Pickford had ventured forward for a late corner, leaving the goal unguarded.
The strike came in just Dowman’s third Premier League appearance. The Arsenal academy product had already made history earlier in the season when he debuted against Leeds United at 15, becoming one of the youngest players to feature in the competition, behind only Ethan Nwaneri.
Dowman’s goal also sees him surpass another long-standing Arsenal benchmark. Cesc Fàbregas previously held the club’s record as the youngest scorer when he netted in a League Cup tie against Wolves in December 2003 at 16 years and 212 days - six years before Dowman was even born.
With his record-breaking finish against Everton, the teenage winger has now become the youngest goalscorer in Premier League history since the competition began in 1992, marking a remarkable early milestone in his career.
