“Maybe I can bang a few skulls together for the greater good,” Chris Sutton

Time is running out on our season and it’s heading for the rocks unless we can get some kind of agreement in place to bring everyone together and get all the fans back into the stadium to as Neil Lennon once put it to bring back the thunder. That’s a phrase that we’ve already used on The Celtic Star this morning and that article will give you an insight into the road block and the attitudes that are prevalent on both sides – the fans and board. Chris Sutton’s view, like my own, is that time is running out as the clock ticks down towards the crucial matches at Ibrox that will go a very long way to deciding the outcomes for this car crash of a season that has been inflicted on us through self harm and arrogance from those drawing huge salaries or dividends from the club but delivering next to nothing constructive. This is a Celtic family at war with itself and for the good of the club it must end.

Chris Sutton offering to mediate isn’t the worst idea but while the Celtic Fans Collective would most likely agree pigs will fly before that offer gets a flashing light from the Celtic Boardroom.

Writing in his newspaper column this morning the former Celtic striker, who is closely associated with interim manger Martin O’Neill, had this to say: “Bring me in, and I’ll mediate between the two. Maybe I can bang a few skulls together for the greater good.

“Something has to give, because nonsense like the other night isn’t going to work,” Sutton stated via his Daily Record column.

‌”Don’t get me wrong. I’ve been critical of the decision makers at Celtic since before the season even started. I’m not saying I told you so again but I could see the warning signs coming down the road and it’s proved to be the case.

“The supporters have every right to be angry given the massive regression over the past 12 months. But they are going to have to park it for a few weeks, because going into this crucial stage of the season, O’Neill is going to need all the help he can get.

“We know this squad isn’t up to much. We know the deficiencies and vulnerabilities in the group. We also know if there’s anyone who can overcome them to get results, it’s O’Neill.

“I’m not blindly believing in my old manager. Yet I understand his frustration the other night. He will have tried to motivate the team to get off to a solid start against Stuttgart – but then the players had to hang around for five minutes while the balls were removed from the pitch.

‌”It took the atmosphere out of the ground and it would have been totally deflating for those out there. As I said, that was no excuse for what followed – but it definitely didn’t help.”

Perhaps Chris Sutton’s offer won’t fall on deaf ears, perhaps there will be progress. There are no other protests currently in the pipeline and none will happen if the bans are lifted. It’s as simple as that. Assurances can also be given regarding conduct and so on and the Celtic Fans Collective can stand behind that. This is NOT a difficult situation to resolve but the pigheadedness is off the scale.
