Chelsea slumped to another home defeat with Anthony Gordon scoring the only goal of the game to give the Magpies a 1-0 win.

It was the first time Newcastle had won at Stamford Bridge in 14 years, and was a serious blow to Chelsea’s chances of qualifying for the Champions League, with Craig Burley highly critical of Liam Rosenior.

Trevoh Chalobah suggests fatigue could be kicking in

It’s been a long season for the Blues given their success at the Club World Cup last summer and a lack of pre-season.

With eight games left, Rosenior’s men could find themselves in sixth place if Liverpool beat Tottenham on Sunday afternoon.

It’s been a long season, and Chelsea need to finish strongly and make sure they’re in the Champions League, but speaking after the game Chalobah suggested fatigue could be kicking in.

“There are a lot of games in this period,” he told Sky Sports as quoted on X.com.

“We just have to play game by game. We put a lot into the Champions League game. Maybe we can say fatigue is kicking in, but we have to focus on the next game.

“This is what we’re playing for. We want to be in the Champions League and competing in the best competition.

“Tuesday [against Paris St-German] is going to be really important, and the league is as well.”

International break on the horizon

The Blues have two games left before the March international break with the second leg against PSG on Tuesday night before a massive game away at Everton on Saturday.

Chelsea desperately need a positive showing in both games, and are in need of the three points against the Toffees.

Some positive momentum heading into the break is vital, but the Blues must sort out their defensive issues if they are to stand any chance.
