Aiden McGeady has heard that Kieran McKenna is being lined up as next Celtic manager…

Despite Martin O’Neill still being in the Celtic manager’s job, it hasn’t stopped the rumour mill flowing in regard to who is next in line for the Celtic Park hot seat, whether that be imminently or next summer. That of course depends on what Martin decides to o after saying he was going to take some time to consider his position after his side suffered three defeats on the bounce.

One name whose name won’t go away is Kieran McKenna, who is currently out of work due to taking a hiatus from the game after making a name for himself in the managerial world whilst at Ipswich Town.

Any move for the 40 year old might need to wait until next summer, as his former club Ipswich will be due a substantial fee for McKenna if he decides to take another job during his proposed break from the game.

Now former Celtic winger Aiden McGeady has shared some talk he’s heard throughout the footballing grapevine in regard to former Manchester United coach McKenna making his next managerial stop in Glasgow’s East End.

McGeady was short and sweet with what he’s heard, and shared what he’d hard on Open Goal.

The former Celtic star said: “I have heard Kieran McKenna is also lined up for next year. I heard that.”

He added: “People were saying that to me; I was like, ‘Kieran McKenna was on £6million a year at Ipswich.’”

It’s only a rumour, but 93 times Republic of Ireland cap McGeady, who played over 252 games for the Hoops, as well as appearing for clubs such as Spartak Moscow, Everton, and Sunderland has his ear on the ground when it comes to footballing gossip.

McGeady also pointed out that McKenna was on a whopping £6 million a year at Portman Road, three times what a Celtic manager can expect as a yearly salary.

But Dermot Desmond has persuaded some big names to come to Celtic in the past. It remains to be seen if Kieran McKenna will be one of them but most Celtic supporters will be hoping that McGeady’s update is accurate.

Whether that’s happening soon or next May is really down to what Martin decides and I for one have every faith in him returning to work after a well deserved short break and putting things right on the park.
