Scott McTominay has scored 20 Serie A goals in his first two seasons at Napoli, making up for the Partenopei strikers’ struggles under Antonio Conte.

Napoli have spent over 140m for attackers under Conte

Napoli have only scored 48 Serie A goals this season, with their top scorer in the league being ex-Manchester United star Rasmus Hojlund, who has 10 goals in 28 matches.

Napoli’s attacking production has not been the same as in the past, especially during Maurizio Sarri and Luciano Spalletti’s tenures.

The Partenopei have averaged 1.45 goals per game this season, 0.10 fewer than in the previous campaign, despite some big investments in attacking players across the last two years, including €50m for Hojlund, € 30m each for Romelu Lukaku and David Neres, €35m for Lorenzo Lucca, and € 28m for Noa Lang.

Gazzetta reports that Napoli have spent €143.5m for new players in attack, centre-forwards and wingers, but their contribution in terms of goals has not matched the amount paid for their signings.

On the other hand, Scotland international McTominay has been in fantastic goal-scoring form since moving to the Stadio Maradona from Manchester United in 2024, scoring 20 goals in Serie A: 12 in 2024-25 and eight in the current campaign.
