According to L'Équipe, Melchie Dumornay has been named UNFP player of the season, with Mylène Chavas best goalkeeper and Justine Rouquet best young player.
She received her first UNFP best player award on Monday at the Palais Brongniart. It came only hours after she celebrated Lyon’s 4-1 Coupe de France final win over PSG by dancing with Selma Bacha and Wendie Renard to Pilé by Mauvais Djo.
Three years after being named the league’s best young player with Reims, and a year after finishing behind Clara Mateo of Paris FC for the main award, the 22-year-old has now taken the top honour.
She has produced nine assists in nine starts and has become the brains of Jonatan Giraldez’s side. She said she has refined her reading of the game under him through individual sessions, is more disciplined in central areas, and has improved her pressing and choices in attacking transitions.
With both domestic cups already won, she is targeting the Première Ligue title and, above all, the Champions League. She finished 18th in September’s Ballon d’Or ranking and should end up much higher.
Earlier in the ceremony, Mylène Chavas collected the goalkeeper of the season award after 17 clean sheets for Paris FC this season. The Frenchwoman denied Christiane Endler a fifth straight trophy.
Montpellier’s Justine Rouquet, 18, was named best young player. She is the second from MHSC to take the prize after Sakina Karchaoui in 2017.
