Memphis agrees two-year Corinthians deal, club demand medicals before renewal | OneFootball

According to Globo.com, Memphis Depay has agreed a two-year renewal at Corinthians, but the club want medical tests before he signs. Talks have moved forward, yet the deal is not considered complete.

The forward could return to Brazil on Tuesday, and a possible third season linked to minutes played remains under debate. President Osmar Stabile has not signed off.

There is significant internal concern over his fitness. Memphis had injury issues before joining in September 2024 and has faced several setbacks since. This year he has played 14 games for Corinthians, scoring one and assisting one.

Allies of Stabile opposing the renewal cite those fitness doubts, the club’s severe financial crisis, poor value for money and political factors. Depending on test results, the medical department could advise against proceeding.

Memphis’s representatives maintain he is ready to play, will take any required tests and can be available to head coach Fernando Diniz upon his return. They view the scrutiny as a political pretext to block the agreement.

The saga has dragged on for months. Allies also cite previous attempts to sign Alisson and Kayky and to sell André to Milan, when the football department advanced talks but Stabile blocked them. On Sunday, after Corinthians drew with Bahia in the 20th round, he deferred the matter to a Monday meeting.

Recent talks have revised pay, reducing fixed salary and increasing performance-related variables, with Memphis accepting a lower base tied to sporting results.
