Memphis Depay drew attention on the Corinthians bench during the 1-1 draw with Flamengo at Neo Química Arena in the eighth round of the Brasileiro. In a post afterwards, the forward said his handset use was solely to contact Netherlands medical staff following his March call-up, that he left the dressing room to support the team, and that he was disappointed with the result while vowing to keep working.
On 20 minutes he supplied a deft outside-of-the-foot pass to Matheus Bidu, whose cross allowed Yuri Alberto to equalise in Itaquera.
Soon after, Memphis felt pain, received treatment and asked to come off, with Rodrigo Garro replacing him. He went straight to the dressing room and did not initially remain on the bench, returning only after the interval.
In second-half stoppage time he was back among the substitutes and drew a rebuke from an assistant after being seen with his mobile at pitchside, a practice generally considered inappropriate during matches.
His possible physical issue adds to other absences in the squad coached by Dorival Júnior, with Felipe Longo rehabbing an elbow problem, Hugo Farias recovering from knee surgery and Kaio César again feeling muscular pain. Corinthians have around nine days to prepare before facing Fluminense at the Maracanã on the first of April at 21:30 in the ninth round.
