Mendes heads late as Vasco da Gama stun Flu in stoppage time | OneFootball

Vasco da Gama beat Fluminense 3-2 at the Maracanã on Wednesday, climbing from 16th to 10th as Thiago Mendes struck a stoppage time winner.

In the first minute Agustín Canobbio put Flu ahead from the centre of the box after Luciano Acosta's pass.

After the restart Hércules doubled the lead with a thumping finish into the top right (54.), again supplied by Acosta.

Vasco hit back when Nuno Moreira drove in from outside the area following a corner (59.). Moments later Ganso headed against the bar (70.).

Substitute Cláudio Spinelli levelled with a glancing header from Cuiabano's cross after a set piece (88.).

Then Mendes rose to head in from Johan Rojas' cross after a corner in the fifth minute of second half stoppage time.

Half-time changes lifted Vasco, with Rojas introduced and dangerous on the right before creating the decisive delivery.

Vasco tallied 16 attempts, with six on target.
