Lionel Messi has committed his future to Inter Miami by signing a fresh multi-year contract, according to the Miami Herald.
The agreement was reached a few months before the scheduled unveiling of Miami Freedom Park, the new stadium being built near Miami International Airport.
Messi is also preparing to lead Argentina in their attempt to retain the World Cup. The tournament will be staged across the United States, Mexico and Canada in 2026.
The forward has bagged 20 goals and 11 assists in 21 league matches. Across all competitions in 2025, he has produced 28 goals and 13 assists.
His displays last season earned him the league’s Most Valuable Player award as Miami recorded their best season yet.
Messi’s initial package with Miami was valued at around $150 million and also included a shareholding in the club upon his retirement.
The financial transformation since his arrival has been remarkable. Miami made around $60 million in revenue in 2022
That figure doubled in 2023 and is forecasted to approach $300 million this year.
Crowd numbers, ticket prices, sponsorship agreements and merchandise sales have all risen sharply, underlining the scale of Messi’s influence.
He remains a key player for club and country, and it will be intriguing to see what he can achieve during the rest of his career.
