Met Deputy Commissioner Matt Jukes told how the force is already preparing for the possibility of such a historic win, 60 years after England last lifted the World Cup.

Just hours after police had to deal with a riot by Moroccan fans in north London after their team lost to France, DC Jukes also stressed that one officer was knocked unconscious, four people had been arrested and CCTV images were being checked to hunt down more thugs.

The police boss was then asked on LBC Radio if Scotland Yard was doing “advance planning” for an England victory parade.

Ahead of England’s quarter final with Norway on Saturday, DC Jukes replied: “We are definitely thinking about what the very best outcomes can mean.

“We hope we're going to be alongside the rest of England in celebrating that in a few weeks' time."

Pressed whether there was already a team working on a victory parade, he added: “Yeah, while everyone else is watching the results and wondering what will happen, there are people who are locked in rooms imagining what that will be like.”

He explained further: "We saw a really big, lively, and at a couple of points problematic parade after Arsenal's victory.

"So we hope we are getting ready for it.

"We are always going to plan for things."

Harry Kane will be seeking to score again against Norway while his team tries to close down Erling Haaland

London Standard

If England can contain Erling Haaland and beat Norway, Harry Kane’s team could face Lionel Messi's Argentina in the semi finals in Atlanta on Wednesday evening, UK time.

A win over Argentina could see the Three Lions play France or Spain in the final in New Jersey on Sunday evening.

An England victory parade would go through the streets of central London, most probably down The Mall and past Buckingham Palace, through Trafalgar Square and down Whitehall to Parliament.

Kane’s team would also likely be invited to No10 by Everton fan Andy Burnham who is set to become Prime Minister on Monday July 20, the day after the World Cup final.

There is likely to be a surge in calls for a Bank Holiday to mark such a victory, if it happened.

The Met Police has extensive experience in dealing with major public events.

Hundreds of thousands of football fans joined Arsenal’s victory parade in north London, after the Gunners won the Premier League for the first time in 22 years at the end of May.

If Mikel Arteta’s team had also won the Champions League it could have have been an even bigger event.

DC Jukes also urged England fans to behave responsibly as the nation prepared to watch the clash with Norway on Saturday.

He told how the number of calls to the force has jumped by a third in the heatwave weather which looks set to go on for many days.

He stressed that officers were “melting” in the heat but were ready to respond including to domestic abuse incidents which tend to rise during major sporting events.

“Alcohol-related crime is the big thing,” the police chief added.

“There are long days, people are drinking.

“We just get an increased volume of calls about people in public spaces.”

He also stressed: “We want to hear from the victims of domestic abuse.”

But he urged Londoners not to call the police unnecessarily, for example if a package is not delivered to their home.
