Mexico U-20 Defeats Costa Rica with a Strong Chivas Presence! | OneFootball

The Chivas Academy once again played a decisive role for the Mexico U-20 National Team. Hugo Camberos and Santiago Sandoval scored the goals that powered El Tri to a 2-0 victory over Costa Rica on Monday night at Estadio Cuauhtémoc, a result that lifted Mexico to the top of Group B with six points.

Head coach Alex Diego named five Chivas Academy players in his starting lineup: Sebastián Liceaga, Carlos Hernández, Samir Inda, Hugo Camberos and Santiago Sandoval. Later in the match, Cristo Navarrete came on to replace Liceaga after the goalkeeper was sent off.

Mexico controlled the flow of the match and was finally rewarded in the 40th minute, when Santiago Sandoval was brought down inside the box and the referee pointed to the penalty spot. One minute later, Hugo Camberos calmly converted from the spot to put El Tri ahead and score his second goal of the tournament.

Although Mexico was reduced to 10 men in the 50th minute, it maintained control of the match and doubled its lead in the 59th minute through the Inda-Sandoval connection. Samir Inda delivered a perfectly timed lofted pass over the defense to Santiago Sandoval, who met it with a first-time volley that found the back of the net.

Mexico U-20 will wrap up the Group Stage this Thursday at 7 p.m. (CT), when it faces Guatemala at Estadio Cuauhtémoc.
