Mezian Mesloub made Ligue 1 history on Friday night, finding the net five seconds after coming on against Nantes, a match that finished 1-0. He was 16 years and 181 days.
L'Équipe notes that since Opta began collecting competition data, no substitute had scored faster, with Ireneusz Jelen's six-second effort for Auxerre against Lorient in October 2007 previously leading the list.
The Portugal U17 international tops the chart for quickest goals on debut too. Axel Ngando scored after 19 seconds for Rennes against Lorient on 2 February 2013, and Yacine Bammou netted after 32 seconds for Nantes against Lens on 9 August 2014.
The son of Walid Mesloub also joins the elite of the youngest scorers in the top flight. Since 1946 only six players have been younger, with Richard Krawczyk for Lens holding the mark at 16 years and 107 days in 1963.
Other rapid scorers from the bench since 2006-2007 include Aleksandr Golovin, 10 seconds for Monaco against Lorient on 6 January 2021, Jamel Saihi, 14 seconds for Montpellier against Lorient on 11 May 2011, and Guido Carillo, 15 seconds for Monaco against Bastia on 3 December 2016.
