Manchester United are sweating on the fitness of £73.7m striker Benjamin Sesko before Saturday’s Premier League trip to Sunderland at the Stadium of Light. According to Sunderland Echo, the Slovenia international has become central to Michael Carrick’s attack after a deal with RB Leipzig worth an initial £66.3m plus add-ons.
Sesko scored United’s second in the 3-2 win over Liverpool, moving to 11 Premier League goals and 12 in all competitions.
He was injured before the interval following a challenge by Ibrahima Konate near the corner flag, crashing into the advertising hoardings. He did not return after half-time.
Carrick said the forward suffered a bang to his shin when he fell down the side of the pitch, an area he has been managing for a while. The impact was on the same spot after contact sent him into the hoardings and down the dip.
United welcomed Matheus Cunha and Luke Shaw back to the starting XI after injury concerns. Sesko’s substitution leaves another question for Wearside, while Kobbie Mainoo later netted the winner as United turn attention to Saturday.
