Former Man United Star Shares his Thoughts on Michael Carrick’s Future

Manchester United’s season was stuck in limbo after the departure of Ruben Amorim back in January. The club turned to former midfielder Michael Carrick as an interim option until the end of the season, and not many expected what has happened since.

Carrick has guided the Red Devils up to third in the Premier League table and has already secured Champions League qualification for next season.

After beating both Manchester City and Arsenal in the opening weeks of his reign, Sunday’s 3-2 win over Liverpool was another huge step in the right direction.

Man United have lost just two of the 14 games since Carrick’s arrival and now he is in serious contention for the permanent job.

Former Man United star Paul Parker spoke exclusively to EPL Index and shared his thoughts on Carrick’s credentials…

Is Carrick the Solution?

Carrick had been out of work since losing his job at Middlesbrough and many were unsure whether he could make the step up in the Premier League, however Parker has been impressed.

“He’s calm and that’s the biggest thing for me,” said Parker, “I’m sure that if he was to get the permanent job then he would become a lot firmer with the players.”

“But at the moment, he still has to play that game with the players. He can’t go shouting and screaming at them, but he still needs to be able to have an opinion on them,” said Parker.

“I believe he has a really, really good chance at getting the job, but he still needs to finish the season well,” continued Parker.

Looking Ahead

Manchester United still have three Premier League games remaining, where they face Sunderland, Nottingham Forest and Brighton.

Win those games and they would finish on 73 points, which they have only managed three times since Sir Alex Ferguson’s departure in 2013.

It would also represent a significant improvement on the final tally of 42 points last season.

However, Carrick isn’t the only name being considered. Other names like Oliver Glasner and Andoni Iraola have also been heavily linked, but it’s looking increasingly likely that Carrick will be in the Old Trafford dugout next season.
