Michael Chopra, 42, makes non-league return with Trethomas Bluebirds

Michael Chopra has made a surprise return at 42, signing for Cymru South side Trethomas Bluebirds. The former Sunderland, Newcastle United and Cardiff City striker joins the Welsh club.
According to Sunderland Echo, the club have confirmed his arrival after four years away from competitive football. He last featured for West Allotment Celtic in 2022.
Trethomas finished 13th last season and are seeking to strengthen before the new campaign. Chopra’s experience and pedigree bolster Paul Evans’ squad.
He came through at Newcastle United, later representing several clubs. He is best remembered for four spells with Cardiff City, scoring 63 goals and becoming a popular figure in South Wales.
He joined Cardiff from Newcastle in 2006 and made an immediate impact with 22 goals and 12 assists. That form earned a £5million move to Sunderland in 2007, where he made 42 appearances and scored eight goals.
Chopra later played for Ipswich Town, Blackpool, Kerala Blasters, Alloa Athletic and others, with his career also taking him to India and Scotland. His latest switch comes as Trethomas prepare for a third season at this level.
