Michael Olise has set a World Cup single-edition assist record, surpassing Pelé’s 1970 benchmark, according to L'Équipe.

He reached seven for the tournament after creating goals against Senegal, Iraq and Sweden, then adding decisive passes towards the end of the campaign. Along the way he supplied Kylian Mbappé repeatedly, as well as Ousmane Dembélé and Bradley Barcola.

In the third-place match against England, both of his assists were for Mbappé as France began their comeback.

No player had previously hit seven in a single World Cup since records began in 1966.

Pelé was the only man to reach six in 1970, and he did so with two fewer matches than Olise. It is an historic feat for the Bayern player.
