Michael Olise struck a superb hat-trick as France beat Northern Ireland 3-1 in a friendly, moving to seven goals for Les Bleus, matching Ballon d'Or Ousmane Dembélé’s tally in 42 fewer caps.

On his 17th cap in Villeneuve-d'Ascq on Monday, the Bavarian scored in the 43rd, 48th and 75th minutes. L'Équipe notes that Dembélé, a PSG player, also has seven, but in 59 caps across almost 10 years.

Dembélé made his France debut in September 2016 in Belarus, a 0-0 draw.

Olise’s haul moves him beyond Alain Giresse, Luis Fernandez, Emmanuel Petit and Patrick Vieira, each on six for France.

None of those were orthodox centre-forwards, and nor is Olise, who could climb France’s scoring list again quickly.
