Michail Antonio in talks with Leicester City over short-term deal | OneFootball

Michail Antonio has linked up with Championship club Leicester City as he prepares to return to club football.

Telegraph reports that Antonio was at Leicester’s training ground for talks on Thursday and is training with the club on Friday. He is under consideration for a short-term deal with Marti Cifuentes’s squad.

The Jamaica international has not played club football since last December after a serious road traffic accident while at West Ham United. The 35-year-old’s contract expired at the end of last season, though he continued his rehabilitation there and featured for West Ham’s Under-21s in August against Nottingham Forest.

With finances restricted at Leicester as they seek to comply with financial controls, a short-term agreement could suit both parties.

Antonio has maintained a media presence and was in the TNT Sports studio on Thursday night for Nottingham Forest’s Europa League tie at Utrecht. He also trained with Brentford at the start of the season to keep match sharpness.

Earlier this year he described the recovery as difficult, saying a projected 12-month lay-off was cut to around five and a half months. He added that he played for Jamaica in the summer, scored twice for the 21s, feels in a good place and is waiting for a club before proving himself on the pitch.
