Michelle Agyemang’s late stoppage time equaliser kept England’s Euros hopes alive as they beat Italy 2-1 in extra time.
The 19-year-old star has been brought on as a late substitute in three games at Euro 2025, scoring tournament-saving goals in both the quarter-final and semi-final for the Lionesses.
Agyemang scored 41 seconds into her England debut back in April, but there will be no goal more important to her than the one she scored in Geneva to keep England in contention to retain their European title.
“I’m buzzing,” Agyemang said. “I might not look it, but I am buzzing. It’s crazy.
“To do that two games in a row now in that kind of fashion, it shows the character of this team and I’m so grateful that we’re still here to see another week.
“To be down for almost 96 minutes and to go change it, turn the game around, it’s a collective effort and fight.
“Without every single player on the pitch, every single player on the bench, coaches, staff, we wouldn’t be here today, so I’m grateful for that.
“Wow, I’m so happy to be here and bring on Basel and I’m excited for whoever we play against in the final.”
After only getting her international call up three months ago, Agyemang has become a real gamechanger for Sarina Wiegman.
England were 2-0 down in their quarter-final against Sweden, but goals from Lucy Bronze and Agyemang took the tie to penalties, where the Lionesses prevailed.
In Geneva, it was a similar story as Agyemang rescued the game once more with her brilliance, having started the year not thinking she wuld even feature at the tournament.
“Oh my goodness it’s a lot, but it’s a lot of learning and experience and I’m so grateful that I’m here,” she added.
“No [I could never have dreamed of being here], I think it’s been a crazy season for me.
“Being on loan [at Brighton from Arsenal] and then getting the England call up at such a late time in the season. Everything happens for a reason. I’m so grateful to God that I’m here.
“Being here for such a short amount of time my teammates have been so supportive. It would be easy to come here and not really be connected to a team because of the short amount of time but they’ve really taken me in and I’m so grateful for every single person in this team.
“The fans come out everywhere. It shows the support we have both here and back home in England and all over the world. It means the world to me you know and I’m so grateful for the support.”
