Mick Jones will become the first former Leeds United player to receive a Heritage Cap, alongside a Lifetime Achievement Award, during Saturday’s Premier League game against Brentford at Elland Road.
The club said in a statement that the Heritage Cap forms part of Marching On Forever, the former players’ association established in late 2025 to recognise past contributions.
The 80-year-old will go onto the pitch with his family at half-time, with supporters urged to stay in their seats for the presentation. The scheme will begin issuing bespoke legacy caps to club greats from this weekend.
Jones scored 111 goals in 312 appearances for Leeds between 1967 and 1975 and won three England caps. He was a key figure under Don Revie, netting the winner against Ferencváros in the 1968 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup final, the club’s first European trophy.
He lifted league titles in 1969 and 1974, finishing as Leeds’ top scorer in both seasons. Between those triumphs he assisted Allan Clarke’s decisive goal in the 1972 FA Cup final. Jones also won the 1969 Charity Shield and a second Inter-Cities Fairs Cup in 1971.
