Middlesbrough are in talks with Tottenham over a permanent move for Spurs striker Will Lankshear, Hayters understands.
The forward has attracted plenty of interest this summer, with a host of Championship clubs including Southampton, Wolves and Boro, as well as Portuguese side Sporting CP keen on the 21-year-old.
Lankshear spent last season on loan in the Championship at Oxford United, where he scored 12 goals and notched a further four assists.
Spurs have already turned down multiple approaches for the striker this summer, Hayters understands, but Boro are hoping to strike a deal to sign the Englishman, though a deal is yet to be finalised.

Middlesbrough are in line for a financial boost through their sell on clause for former player Morgan Rogers, who is set to join Chelsea in a £117m deal.
Tottenham rate Lankshear highly but would consider a deal for the right price in order to fund Roberto De Zerbi’s summer spending spree.
Middlesbrough wanted to sign Lankshear on loan in January with an option to buy him should they win promotion, but the decision was made for the youngster to stay put at Oxford instead and revisit his future in the summer.
