Two clauses could mean that Boro make a healthy amount of money this summer.
While some of a Middlesbrough persuasion will still be hurting after the Championship play-off final defeat at Wembley Stadium, many are already looking ahead to next season.
First, Boro must navigate their way through the summer transfer window, and they will have some key decisions to make on several players, including Hayden Hackney, who has substantial Premier League interest.
The Teesside club will also be keeping an eye on two of their former players, Morgan Rogers and Djed Spence, who could have significant summers in their own right.
Both have enjoyed successful futures having departed the Riverside Stadium and could hand their former club sizeable funds after the latest developments.

Rogers has been one of England's major success stories over the years, developing into one of the country's most successful talents ahead of the FIFA World Cup.
The attacking-midfielder topped off a stellar campaign for Aston Villa by lifting the Europa League trophy, and now he is set for a starting berth in Thomas Tuchel's side ahead of Jude Bellingham.
Despite the Villans' success, they are at risk of losing Rogers this summer, and if they do, then Middlesbrough will be due a healthy cash injection.
The 23-year-old joined Villa in a deal worth £16million in January 2024, and Boro will be entitled to an agreed percentage of whatever fee the Midlands club receive if they do sell him this summer, according to Teesside Live.
They report that while the exact percentage is unknown, it was described as substantial at the time, and is believed to be more than the industry-standard 10 per cent.
Rogers has been attracting interest from Premier League champions Arsenal, and it is said that the Villans would demand a fee in the region of £80-100million.
Given that Boro are entitled to a fee understood to be more than 10 per cent, they would likely receive an eight-figure fee if he were to be sold for at least £80million.

Spence has defied his doubters over the years to earn a regular place at Tottenham, and now he is set for the summer of his life as part of Tuchel's England squad.
The full-back was a somewhat controversial addition as he struggled for starts at the end of a campaign that almost finished in relegation, while Lewis Hall, Myles Lewis-Skelly and Luke Shaw were all overlooked.
The same report from the Teeside Gazette states that Middlesbrough could receive a seven-figure fee from Spurs this summer due to a clause in the deal that took him from the North East to North London in 2022.
They report that one of the clauses written into the agreement was based on Spence's England appearances in competitive games.
Although the defender has made four international appearances, only one of those was in a competitive fixture, so that clause has not yet been met, but even if he comes on for just one minute, then Middlesbrough would receive a figure understood to be more than £1million.
