Middlesbrough are set to win the race to sign former Oxford United winger, Myles Peart-Harris, who is available as a free-agent this summer.

Middlesbrough will be looking to win promotion into the Premier League next season, after missing out on a top-flight return at the final hurdle in the 2025/26 campaign.

Boro originally missed out on a place in the Championship play-off final, after being beaten by Southampton on aggregate, but due to off-field issues, the Saints were disqualified from playing their part in that final.

Middlesbrough took their place, but couldn't make their opportunity count, as Hull City came out victorious, and secured promotion into the Premier League.

It's set to be an interesting summer ahead at the Riverside, and the club's supporters will be hoping that their side can make some additions ahead of the 2026/27 season getting underway.

If they can recruit smartly, then you'd imagine that Middlesbrough will be in and around the top-six once again, with many fans hoping they can force their way back into the Premier League.

Boro haven't been in the top-flight since the 2016/17 season, and the Riverside faithful will be hoping that they aren't waiting too much longer in their quest to go one better than last season.

It's recently been reported by The Northern Echo that Middlesbrough are closing in on a deal to sign Myles Peart-Harris, who is currently a free-agent after a short spell with Oxford United.

This update comes after Football League World exclusively revealed that QPR and Leicester City were also keen on reaching an agreement to secure Peart-Harris' services ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

The winger/attacking midfielder came through the youth ranks with Chelsea, before moving to Brentford, where he made four senior appearances for the Bees in a five-year spell with the London-based club.

He had various loan spells with the likes of Forest Green Rovers, Portsmouth, and Swansea City whilst contracted to Brentford, and he chipped in with some important goals in each of those loan spells.

Peart-Harris joined Oxford United in January 2026 on a short-term deal until the end of the 2025/26 season, where he made 20 appearances, scoring on three occasions for Oxford, who ultimately fell short in their efforts to avoid relegation into League One this term.

What would Myles Peart-Harris bring to Middlesbrough?

Middlesbrough certainly could benefit from adding a player of Peart-Harris' quality to their ranks, as strength in depth is never a bad dilemma to have as a manager.

Boro sold Hayden Hackney to Everton this summer for a sizeable fee, and so it makes complete sense for the club to look at adding options to their squad ahead of the new season.

Peart-Harris primarily operates out wide in attacking areas, and his creative ability would take the weight off of the likes of Morgan Whittaker's shoulders to provide that creative spark in the Middlesbrough team.

As a free-agent, it's a low-risk move for Middlesbrough, and it's pleasing to see them beating the likes of QPR and Leicester City to getting an agreement in place to sign Peart-Harris, and it shows that Boro are a club heading in the right direction under Kim Hellberg's management.
