Liverpool are expected to conduct a midfield summer refit.

The Premier League champions last refreshed that sector back in 2023 - when Dominik Szoboszlai, Wataru Endo, Ryan Gravenberch and Alexis Mac Allister all arrived.

But Arne Slot has been getting diminishing returns out of some of those players - while contract uncertainty reigns over Curtis Jones.

The homegrown midfielder could leave since his deal expires in 2027 and no agreement has been reached over a new deal. In a very similar boat is Harvey Elliott - another player likely to be sold in order to fund new purchases.

Harvey Elliott to trash out future with Arne Slot

The 23-year-old was sent on loan to Aston Villa at the start of the season - with the expectation that Unai Emery’s side would activate a £35m permanent clause once he’d reached 10 Premier League matches.

It was clear very early on however that the Villans had no intention of honouring the agreement - with Elliott restricted to very few appearances as a result.

The playmaking talent is out of contract in 2027 and with only one year left on his deal it looks like a summer transfer will take shape.

According to BBC Sport the England under-21 international retains interest from the Premier League as well as around Europe.

Elliott unlikely to win a place under Slot

But before his transfer destiny is decided the former Fulham youth will have a confrontation with Arne Slot over his place in the Dutchman’s plans.

Harvey Elliott is attracting Premier League and European interest but is still expected back at Liverpool for the start of pre-season,” the report reads.

“He is unlikely to have a future at Liverpool if Arne Slot is in charge next season but the playmaker is due to report for pre-season training at Axa Training Centre in the summer.”

Elliott - who won the Premier League title for the Reds last season - has been treated very shoddily out on loan and deserves to have his future spelled out.

The BBC report makes the point that his fate could change should Arne Slot be replaced. But the former Feyenoord supremo is under contract until 2027 and right now there are no indications that FSG will give up on their title-winning coach.

There shan’t be a fresh start for Elliott at Anfield in that case - with Slot already proving that he is not a big fan of the talented left-footer.
