Miguel Almirón was sent off under the so-called Prestianni law in Türkiye’s World Cup meeting with Paraguay, sparking debate across football.

According to Glorioso 1904, the incident came late in the first half on Saturday. During an exchange with Mert Müldür, Almirón covered his mouth while speaking, a gesture the Türkiye international immediately highlighted to the officials.

Referee Iván Barton consulted VAR, then showed a straight red, making the Paraguayan the first player dismissed under the rule, which gained prominence after incidents involving Gianluca Prestianni against Real Madrid.

The guideline has been closely associated with the young Benfica talent Gianluca Prestianni. It aims to curb unsporting conduct and prevent players from hiding messages or insults during on-field disputes.
