Boca Juniors have been dealt an early-season blow, with Miguel Merentiel sidelined by a calf muscle injury during a pivotal run of fixtures.
According to LaNumer12.com.ar, the Uruguayan forward could miss between three and six matches, forcing the staff to seek attacking alternatives quickly.
His absence starts on Sunday 25 January, when Boca host Deportivo Riestra at La Bombonera at 18:30. It continues with the 28 January visit to Estudiantes at 22:15, then Newell's at home on Sunday one February at 19:15.
A key checkpoint is Sunday eight February at Vélez at 22:15, which would mark 21 days since the injury, the usual timeframe for a muscle tear to heal. His involvement in Liniers would depend strictly on his progress and the absence of setbacks.
The outlook for the second half of the month remains unclear. Merentiel is a doubt for Platense on Sunday 15 February at 19:30 and for the Racing clash at La Bombonera on Friday 20 February at 20:00, with medical staff assessing him daily.
Injuries are mounting for the side led by Claudio Úbeda. Edinson Cavani has lumbago and has undergone treatment to ease pain and play, while Milton Giménez is dealing with pubalgia.
Rodrigo Battaglia has insertional tendinopathy in his right Achilles tendon and Chilean winger Carlos Palacios has synovitis in his right knee.
